Out-of-the-box ideas to recruit chemistry students

Who better than our own top sector talent students can tell secondary school students that chemistry is a great study where you also contribute to major social challenges? But how do you do that? With a folder? A boring website? No! This is where out-of-the-box ideas come into play. Our talent students from COAST and ISPT started working in 10 mixed teams of about 10 students in November 2022 to come up with the ultimate idea and also test it in practice. They did this on the basis of a UN Sustainability Development Goal of their choice, such as the climate transition, circularity or innovation + industry.

On Saturday 25 March, the teams in Flint Amersfoort pitched their ideas to each other and to our jury. The very best idea came from team 7. This team has devised a game around the steps of a water purification process. Each step contains chemistry, physics or biology, so the players discover that science subjects are used everywhere. The Runner Up Team has come up with fun chemistry puzzles that can be printed on a sprinkles package, for example. In this way, even breakfast becomes a (subconscious) learning moment.

Soon more about what will happen with the ideas of the students!
