Thin-film solar cells development

In Solliance, a research centre shared by TNO, TU Eindhoven, Holst Centrum, ECN, imec and Forschungszentrum Jülich, scientists are developing new materials and concepts for applications in thin-film solar cells. The goal is to increase the efficiency of solar cells while also reducing their cost price. Together with the industry, those scientists are developing sustainable materials and pre-pilot equipment. Chemical companies such as DSM are participating in comparable collaborations to gain knowledge about new materials for specific applications, as well as to develop new products for the market. The new thin-film technology developed by DSM can increase the efficiency of and enable thinner layers on solar cells. This increases energy yields for the solar cells and decreases production cost.
