Business prepares for start of GroenvermogenNL

Hydrogen promises to play an important role in the energy transition and green chemistry. GroenvermogenNL is one of the first programs awarded funding from the National Growth Fund to build on the potential and upscaling of hydrogen and green chemistry. On 1 November, more than 80 companies participated in the information session about this programme. They got to know the program better and together the first possibilities for participation in the R&D program of GroenvermogenNL were inventoried. The information session took place in the run-up to the 3rd administrative round table ‘Hydrogen and Green Chemistry’, which will take place on December 7, 2021.

In the meeting, organized by the leaders of the administrative round table Hydrogen and Green Chemistry and the Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate, the most important elements of GroenvermogenNL were discussed. Marco Waas (ECCM member, Nobian) outlined the main features and context of the GroenvermogenNL programme, after which Paulien Herder (technical chair of GroenvermogenNL, TU Delft) discussed the organisation, planning and procedure of the programme. Richard van de Sanden (chairman of ECCM, Eindhoven University of Technology) discussed in more detail the seven work packages within GroenvermogenNL. In breakout sessions, the participants were able to discuss in more detail the possible implementation and potential participation of companies per work package. Hans van der Weijden (ECCM member, Tata Steel) concluded with a summary of the main findings per work package.

Broad interest in participating
In order to utilize the full potential of hydrogen, it is of great importance that companies and players in the entire hydrogen value chain are involved in GroenvermogenNL. Almost all those present indicated in polls that they almost certainly wanted to participate in GroenvermogenNL. An important condition was mentioned, among other things, that the program should be implemented quickly. The need for interim results valorisation, good coordination with other programmes, transparency, sufficient funding, SME participation and minimization of overheads were also discussed.

What’s next
In addition to this information session for companies, a session was also organized for knowledge institutions on 3 November. In the coming period, companies and knowledge institutions will indicate their specific interest, including private contribution, per program component. This will enable GroenvermogenNL to advise optimally on the details of the R&D instrument, which NWO is expected to open at the beginning of 2021. In addition, this inventory among companies and knowledge parties constitutes important input for the 3rd administrative round table on 7 December, in which participants, chaired by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, draw up the ‘state of the country’ in the field of Hydrogen and Green Chemistry. If your company is also interested in participating in GroenvermogenNL, please let us know via secretariaat@groenvermogenNL.org. We will then include you in all relevant correspondence in the run-up to the start of GroenvermogenNL.
