The Netherlands has a great diversity of public-private partnerships and platforms that address part of the materials research. This is not surprising given the breadth and diversity of materials research and applications that result from it. Given the breadth of the materials research field and the many initiatives and platforms that are active in the field of this key technology (often complementary but sometimes also overlapping), the desire has been raised from various top sectors to bring together stakeholders to promote knowledge exchange and opportunities for cooperation to explore.

The top sectors HTSM, Energy and Chemistry have agreed to promote coordination and cooperation in the materials research field under the heading ‘MaterialsNL’. These top sectors would like to take this up jointly with the other top sectors where materials research plays a major role, the LSH, Water and AgriFood sectors. To achieve this, a national MaterialenNL platform is set up.
