Collaboration on a public design and guidelines for effective mouth masks

Now that wearing a face mask in public areas is mandatory, there is a strong need for effective public masks and design guidelines. ChemistryNL and ASML have started an initiative in which medical and technical experts from industry, government and knowledge institutions work together to develop a design for effective mouth masks. This mouth mask should protect the more than 4 million vulnerable people in the Netherlands better against the transmission of Covid-19.

At the moment, the participants are divided in small working groups and they are optimizing the filter, fit and flow of the mask. ChemistryNL and ASML hope to use this initiative to develop design guidelines for an effective public mask for the vulnerable. The first findings will be presented in January 2021 and we will invite you to be present.

The need for effective and especially sustainable masks is also evident from the recently opened RVO tender SBIR Sustainable mouth-nose masks for healthcare. RVO has funding available for carrying out feasibility studies.
