Together with the Netherlands Innovation Network China, organised a roundtable discussion between the Netherlands and China about science, technology and innovation (STI) collaboration in chemistry. Researchers and companies were present to share their perspective on the dynamics of collaboration. Various topics were addressed during the discussions, such as the bilateral relationship, areas for future collaboration and challenges that the participants encounter.
After a kick-off by ChemistryNL Chair Jacqueline Vaessen, Ambassador to China Wim Geerts shared about collaboration with China in general sense. He noted the importance of collaboration in chemistry to address global challenges to achieve the #SDGs, for example related to #climatechange.
Counsellor for Science, Technology and Innovation in China Freek Jan Frerichs elaborated on existing bilateral collaboration and China’s complimentary and growing strengths in STI in fields that are important to the Netherlands.
Officer for Science, Technology and Innovation in China Wielande Li shared about developments in China that are relevant for ChemistryNL. With #sustainablechemistry being one of the domains that China is investing in to foster innovation, opportunities can be explored in fields for such as #circularplastics and #biobasedchemistry.
The roundtable was moderated by Michiel Sweers, Director for Innovation and Knowledge at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, and Marijn Goes, Secretary Science of ChemistryNL.
Thanks to the participants for the insightful discussions. We look forward to jointly explore opportunities for collaboration in chemistry. Should you be interested in developments related to chemistry in China, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
