While the plastic PBS has traditionally been produced using petroleum-based building blocks, customers are increasingly demanding biodegradable products. The APPS project (Wageningen Food and Biobased Research) is using biobased PBS to develop materials for injection-moulding applications. It concerns a wide range of applications including reusable crates for use in horticulture and (luxury) packaging materials. The bio-PBS is based on succinic acid produced by Reverdia. This sustainable biobased PBS has the same material properties as petroleum-based PBS, but then with improved CO2 footprint.
