The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth have made €3.76 million available for public-private research projects in the field of chemistry and advanced materials for defence applications. The PPS-I 2026 Call: Chemistry and Advanced Materials for Defence is coordinated by ChemistryNL.

The call focuses on innovations that strengthen both the Dutch knowledge position and Europe’s strategic autonomy. Projects may cover the entire innovation chain, from fundamental research to experimental development in a civilian environment.

Funding is available for public-private consortia consisting of research organisations and companies and focuses on three themes:

  • Coatings
  • Advanced ceramics
  • Additive manufacturing

Within these themes, the programme seeks innovations that improve the performance, sustainability and autonomy of defence equipment. Examples include chromium-6-free corrosion-resistant coatings, lightweight ceramic materials for protective applications, and innovative 3D-printing technologies for the on-site production and repair of components.

Projects can apply for up to €500,000 in funding. The call opens on 1 August 2026 at 12:00 (CEST). Applications can be submitted until 29 October 2026 at 14:00 (CET).
