By 2030, the Netherlands wants 50% of all plastics to be recycled, and by 2050 production must be fully circular. To achieve these goals, the Making plastics circular: technical innovations call will explore new plastics (polymers), more effective characterisation, sorting and waste technologies, and recycling techniques for plastics.
The call is expected to open in October. Six million euros is available for research from the National Growth Fund’s Circular Plastics NL programme. Research could include the development of materials and additives to facilitate the recycling of plastics. The call can also look at ways of developing more efficient and effective characterisation, sorting and washing technologies. In addition, the call can also investigate new recycling methods that are not widely used yet and which would make recycling more efficient. This may include research on the creation, prevention or mitigation of microplastics in the recycling process. Up to 10 research proposals will be awarded in this call. The studies will have a duration of five years.
Circular Plastics NL (CPNL)
The Making plastics circular: technical innovations call is part of the National Growth Fund’s Circular Plastics NL programme. By 2030, the Netherlands wants 50% of all plastics to be recycled, and by 2050 a fully circular plastics chain should be in place. The CPNL programme runs for eight years and has eight programme lines that focus on bottlenecks to close the cycles for existing plastics, provide sustainable growth opportunities for the Dutch economy and use subsidies to accelerate the transition.
