22 mei: Blending requerements are on their way. Now what?

Dutch producers of plastic products will face the so-called blending requirements from 2027 onwards. This means that a certain minimum percentage of recycled plastic must be used in the production of new products. Packaging may be the first to be affected.

Many questions remain. Let us not wait, but see economic opportunities and be prepared together. Therefore, in this workshop we will discuss the challenges and explore and work on solutions together.

On the agenda:

  • What is it? What does it mean for me?
  • Why do I want it from an economic perspective?
  • What are the intended requirements and expectations of the legislator(s)? When?
  • What if I do nothing?
  • What is already happening in practice today?
  • How do I tackle this?
  • What are we running into?
  • How can we act together on this?

Geoffrey Schouten of the Circular Plastics Initiative opens the workshop and introduces the issue . We then approach the blending requirements from four angles, for which we have invited experts in their disciplines:

  • Envisaged legislation and enforcement: Rob Verhagen – OPack
  • Analysis and characterisation: Harry Philipsen – Envalior
  • Practice: Gerrit Klein Nagelvoort – Veolia Polymers
  • Nomenclature and digital product passport: Frans Beckers – Cirmar

After the introductions, the four perspectives will be explored in more detail by all participants, with a strong focus on solutions. This online workshop is a collaboration between TI-COAST, Circular Plastics Initiative and Cirmar. Our goal: taking steps together towards a circular economy!
