Trade mission investigates opportunities for hydrogen corridor with Chile

On November 6 – 11 a trade mission to Chile was organized by the Embassy of The Netherlands, RVO, ProChile (Trader Chilean authority), supported by Export Partner with the aim to connect the Dutch H2 ecosystem with the Chilean H2 ecosystem, from the innovation, production, logistics, and applications to further intensify the already close cooperation between the countries, government, knowledge and private sector level.

Chile is one of the few countries in the world with a tremendous surplus of renewable energy potential (wind and solar) and if all plans are being executed according to plan, Chile will produce 200K tons of green H2 per year by the end of 2025 and aims to be able to produce at a price of US$ 1-1.5 per kilo H2 by 2030 and be leaders in producing H2 via electrolysis through 25GW of energy. At the same time, The Netherlands is strategically located and counts with the main ports in Europe. Due to the high energy demand, the country is globally looking for partnerships with countries to import green hydrogen to support the decarbonization goals of the local process industry as well as the ARRRA industry cluster.

Furthermore, this alliance between Chile and The Netherlands could provide huge business opportunities for harbours, storage and logistics companies, service providers, knowledge institutions and technology suppliers based both in both countries. Last but not least, a global green hydrogen based commodities will be required to meet Dutch, European and Global targets for climate change mitigation. The conclusion visiting the sites and talking to all stakeholders is that for the coming decade green ammonia seems to be focus for local production in Chile and export to the rest of the world.

All in all the delegation looks back at a very well organized and informative trade mission establishing contacts and relationships for further development of sustainable development and business opportunities both for Chile and the Netherlands.
