COAST Talents day 2021

The annual COAST Talents Day is a vital and highly valued institution within the COAST community.

The second digital COAST Talents Day took place on Thursday afternoon, June 24th. With more time to prepare, the program was more elaborate than in 2020. All the students in the ASTP and MSc+ programmes presented themselves to 90 participants in pre-recorded “Super Short Selfie Pitches” that were barking of enthusiasm, ambition and creativity. Dr. Klára Ščupáková, one of the eye-catching alumni of our programme, engaged in a highly interactive discussion with the audience on the subject of sustainable-development goals. The ultimate question was to find out how we – as programmes and as individuals – can contribute to achieving these.

The highlight of the programme was formed by presentations from the ten finalists of the CSIA (COAST Student Innovation Award) competition, organized and energetically presented by Petra Aarnoutse. The contestants presented their internships according to the double-Barney formula, with a 180-second pitch followed by 180 seconds of questioning by the expert jury formed by representatives of private COAST partners. As in previous years, the presentations were excellent and the competition was fierce.

Winners
Kasper Arman from Wageningen University was this year’s winner of the CSIA. As part of his prize he will lecture at Eurofast 2022. The second prize was won by Bente van Son from Avans Hogeschool. Bente will present at FAST 2021 on November 10th.

The CSIA expert jury consisted of Harry Philipsen (DSM, Chair), Sander Engelsma (Sonneborn), Wil Grim (MalvernPanalytical), Rob Lieuwen (Corbion), Malgorzata Przeradzka (Janssen Vaccines), Johan Scholtens (Shimadzu), Linda Stolker (WFSR) and Onno de Vreede (ChemistryNL).
