On 24 November and on 8 December NWO invites experts in the field of inland navigation and shipping to cooperate in research. The future public-private consortia will conduct research on zero-emission inland shipping and emission-free, circular shipping. It concerns two research calls with mutual overlap. During the online matchmaking meetings, the researchers and partners can get to know each other and seek collaboration, with room for diversity of expertise and perspectives. The submitted research initiatives in the field of inland shipping will be discussed, as well as pitches for shipping.
The matchmaking meetings will focus on two calls: the NWA call Zero-Emission Inland Shipping and the KIC call Emission-free and Circular Shipping. The first matchmaking on 24 November offers partners the opportunity to present their own innovation question and to contribute ideas on the direction of the research.
The second online matchmaking meeting on 8 December from 09:00-12:00 will focus on connecting the research proposals with cooperation partners and co-financiers. It is possible to attend the matchmaking meetings separately.
Both calls look at how the transition to zero-emission shipping and inland navigation can be made possible. The research focus is on the technical aspects as well as the social embedding of transition issues, behavioural and quality questions, legal preconditions, sustainable business models and logistic issues.
The NWA call Zero emission inland shipping focuses on how the transition to emission-free and sustainable inland shipping can be shaped in cooperation with the inland shipping sector. It also looks at how existing and yet-to-be-developed technological innovations can contribute to the ambition of making inland navigation emission-free. Expertise from areas such as transition management, business administration, sustainable business models, public administration, environmental sciences, technical sciences, law and ethics is needed.
Available budget: 2.86 million euros.
The focus of the KIC call Emission Free and Circular Shipping is on the use of electric and/or hybrid propulsion in shipping. Research proposals must result in an excellent scientific breeding ground that the sector(s) can further use in applied research and development of concrete insights, business models, systems, structures, products and processes that solve these challenges. Expertise from areas such as circularity, (solid state) battery technology, fuel cells, transition management, logistics, behavioural sciences, economics, business models, law and ethics are required. Available budget: 5.5 million euros.
